IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?
A message from the children at Aoibhneas
"Is there anybody out there listening to us?
When we cry HELP, we don't mean tomorrow...
or next week...
or next year... we mean NOW!
Don't tell us that we are precious... that you care... SHOW US!
Don't tell us that our Rights are a Priority... SHOW US!"
Aoibhneas Women and Children's Refuge have for many years now been highlighting our experience of how children are affected by Domestic Violence. We continue to work with and advocate on behalf of these children on a daily basis. Our latest endeavour is to extend our refuge to incorporate a much needed, purpose built Children's Centre, where children can access the help and support they so badly need. The Irish Constitution should encapsulate all the human rights and all the privileges we expect… in fact DEMAND for ourselves… As Irish Citizens. If we as a nation truly cherish our children, surely we must ensure that their rights are safeguarded in our Constitution as a matter of Priority. How long must it take to turn this Priority into a Reality?
In 2007
we ran a campaign 16 Days/16 Nursery Rhymes.
Sadly, at this point we have to consider...
No matter how many campaigns we run
No matter how many stories we tell
Or how many relevant statistics we offer...
Is there ANYBODY out here listening to what we say?
