Day 11 - Members of Travelling Community
Statistics can be misleading.
National statistics say that a large percentage of women staying in refuge are travellers.
What this does not show is that most women travellers stay in refuge a few hours, a few days or a few weeks and then nearly always return to their husbands, their family and the travelling community.
The same woman could show up in our statistics several times in the same year!
Some travellers now use our refuges as a safety net.
They leave when their husbands start drinking before the fighting and beatings start.
.....This is one way of coping with Domestic Violence!
