Aoibhneas, Dublin - A refuge from domestic violence for women and children
Day 12 - Gay Pride

16 Days Against Violence

In our ever changing society, gay people are finally speaking out. Maeve met Dee when they were in college. Dee was so sure of who she was and of her rights. Maeve was quite the opposite and had not even ‘come out’ to family and friends. Over the years their relationship blossomed and in 2007 they bought a two bedroom apartment together.
They have experienced many rough patches over the years. Dee likes to analyse everything and takes what she calls a logical approach to any issues that arise. Maeve on the other hand can be more emotional and is ultra sensitive especially around being accepted as a gay couple. She was also becoming more physically aggressive during their disagreements.
When a serious row broke out between them it was Dee who was unsure of her rights. Sporting a swollen nose and the beginnings of a black eye, she did not want to approach family or friends so she rang the Aoibhneas Helpline for advice.

.....This is another case of Domestic Violence!
